Inquest into death finds euthanasia laws are ‘inadequate to provide for medication safety and to prevent deliberate misuse’

Queensland’s coroner has labelled the state’s euthanasia laws as “inadequate”, warning that “further calamity and heartbreak” will be caused if reforms are not made.

Coroner David O’Connell said the legislation, which went into effect on 1 January 2023, was “not a well-considered law”, while delivering the findings of his inquiry into a death caused by misuse of voluntary assisted dying drugs.
